John Hanks was a Native American of the Makah tribe in Clallam County, Washington. His father was Bob; his mother, Mattie. He died on June 21, 1945, in Neah Bay, Clallam County. He was born on June 5, 1893, in Neah Bay, according to his World War I draft registration. His address at that time, June 11, 1917, was Bell St. Dock, Seattle, Washington. In 1942, when he registered again for the draft, this time World War II, his birthday is recorded as April 5, 1893. Here is the image of his registration card:
